We came home after 3 days stay in Bangkok, Thailand 2019

My heart says a lot of things that I must work on. We have been shopping for 3 days where I haven’t done it for the past 25 years. It was a dream. And it came true. Traveling by plane with my husband, my favorite travel partner next to me. Holding his hands at turbulence. I was overwhelmed when we landed in Bangkok. We never felt it as a strange place I don’t know why. It was around 3.30 in the morning when we step out of Air Asia flight No. FD 141.

Correspondents at the Don Mueang International Airport

We were followed by an immigration officer who directed us to the Immigration counter. In the middle of that walk, we stopped near the “Welcome to Thailand” banner to capture some pictures together. Then we wanted to use the washroom since my face looked dull in the morning. I didn’t use the toilets as it was not that much comfortable for me after seeing a lot of foreigners. Then I and husband went to fill out the immigration form which was tiny paperwork. Meantime, we observed the people around us. Oh, what diversity! we were the only brown couple.

LKR, a closed currency?

However, it was noticed that people are trying to exchange currency at counters present there so we stepped towards it. Unfortunately, LKR was not accepted at any cost so, we searched all over google for a reason and any other places to exchange LKR. It was mentioned that our currency is a closed currency therefore most of the time value for the rupee is diminished. As per the travel forums, Siam Exchange was the right place to help us. It was a pathetic and embarrassing moment of life for us to realize what politicians have done to the Lankan economic growth. So, we decided to finish formalities and move ahead. After few minutes in the long queue, we were escorted by an immigration officer to her room and asked to fill out an interview form. Then we asked her that we are from Sri Lanka and to which counter we should head. Because there were two queues for the foreign counter or ASEAN counter. We were in such a dilemma to choose which counter as our country flag was not mentioned under the ASEAN counter. The female immigrant officer was cooperative and guided us to escape the long queue. We filled in all the details and waved her a hand gesture of saying goodbye because it was the easiest language to understand.

We felt that we both are so lucky to walk in the DMK airport holding each other’s hand. We bought the data sim and finally, we got internet. Everything was happening just as we planned. Our arrival was a smooth process and the time was around 4 AM.

Giant Buildings, highway roads, and 100KMH

Then we headed to the Taxi area to reach our hotel. Even though it is early in the morning everybody was actively participating in the economy of Bangkok. All were busy with their work. We stepped into the Taxi and with great difficulty, we were managed to inform our destination to the Taxi driver. It was a great ride for over 100KMH. Roads were clean and big that we have never seen in life. It symbolized that we are going to see so many new things in Bangkok for the first time. The middle-aged taxi driver was trying to communicate with us in Hindi as he recognized us as another Indian couple. We said that we are from Sri Lanka very proudly. Google maps were our life savior wherever we go. This time also we were managed to check the directions correctly. Early in the morning we reached the hotel and said goodbye to the taxi car.

Well, now a super Tuk Tuk ride?

We observed the surroundings serenely. The entire area was bluish and birds chirping made it a pleasant morning in the middle of giant buildings. The Seven Eleven, supermarket was the first shop we stepped into. We were surprised by the goods in the store. We haven’t seen any of these products in our lives. The working girls were also very friendly and we bought two sandwiches for us to eat and a milk bottle too, and was able to find the road to the Platinum Shopping Mall and towards super fast Tuks (a three-wheeler manufactured by Thailand in a way owned to their culture).

Meantime the sun was rising slowly by falling its rays to one of the busiest cities in the world and our journey to be continued.
